Eczema and skin allergy
Clinical name: Atopic dermatitis · contact dermatitis
Dryness, itch and redness that come and go.
The cause
A barrier defect with an inherited atopic tendency, flared by triggers: soap, wool, sweat, stress, weather change. The contact type follows a specific substance and requires identifying it.
What we can actually change
Eczema is chronic. The aim is longer quiet periods and shorter, milder flares — not disappearance. Most cases settle within 2–6 weeks. Daily emollient is the most important part of treatment, the cheapest part, and the part most often abandoned.
Treatments that address it
This will not work if
- If you are looking for a cure — there is not one. Eczema is controlled, not cured.
- If you will not use a daily emollient — every other treatment will fail.
- This is a medical, not a cosmetic, condition — treated by examination and medication, not sessions.
Aftercare
- A thick emollient twice daily, even when calm
- Fragrance-free wash
- Lukewarm, not hot, water
Questions we are asked
- Is topical steroid harmful?
- At the right potency for the right duration, no. Harm comes from unsupervised long-term use, or from the opposite — fear of it, leaving eczema inflamed for months. We specify potency, duration and site precisely.
