Rosacea
Clinical name: Rosacea
Central facial redness, sometimes with papules and visible fine vessels.
The cause
A vascular and inflammatory disorder, flared by sun, spicy food, hot drinks, alcohol, stress and temperature change. Frequently mistaken for acne and treated wrongly as a result.
What we can actually change
Papules and inflammation improve 60–80% with treatment. Fixed redness and visible vessels need laser, improve 50–70%, and partially return over time. Trigger avoidance delivers half the result, and that half is free.
Treatments that address it
This will not work if
- If you are using topical steroid on your face — it must stop; steroid makes rosacea considerably worse.
- If you will not modify triggers — treatment works at half efficiency.
- If the diagnosis is not yet certain — we examine first; rosacea is very often mistreated as acne.
Aftercare
- Mineral sunscreen daily
- Avoid any product containing alcohol or fragrance
- Keep a record of your own triggers
Questions we are asked
- Is rosacea a form of acne?
- No, despite the resemblance. That is precisely why it is mistreated — strong acne regimens irritate rosacea and increase the redness.
