Clinical name: Androgenetic alopecia · telogen effluvium
Shedding beyond normal, or scalp becoming more visible.
The cause
Two entirely different things with different treatments: diffuse shedding after an event (childbirth, iron deficiency, weight loss, illness) which is temporary and recovers; and androgenetic thinning in a defined pattern, which is chronic and needs continuous treatment.
What we can actually change
Temporary shedding recovers on its own within 6–9 months once the cause is treated. Androgenetic loss can be slowed and partly reversed with continuous treatment — and "continuous" is the operative word: stop, and it returns within a year. Mesotherapy and PRP are adjuncts, not primary treatment, and advanced pattern loss responds to neither.

This will not work if
- If pattern loss is advanced and the scalp is smooth — the follicle has closed and no injection reopens it. This is a transplant referral.
- If you have no recent iron and thyroid results — we will not start injections before knowing the cause.
- If shedding began under 3 months ago after childbirth or illness — wait; it recovers on its own.
- If you are looking for a treatment that ends — androgenetic treatment does not end, and that must be said before any money is taken.
Aftercare
- Use the topical treatment daily
- Repeat investigations every 6 months
- Photograph the scalp at the same angle every 3 months
Questions we are asked
- Does PRP work?
- The evidence is stronger for hair than for skin. It works as an adjunct alongside treating the cause, and it needs maintenance every 4–6 months. Alone, in advanced pattern loss? No.

Partial outcome
Partial result — improved density frontally only; the vertex did not respond. The patient had a concurrently treated iron deficiency, and part of this improvement is probably the iron rather than the PRP. We say so because attributing a result to the wrong treatment keeps patients paying for sessions they do not need.
