Dark circles
Clinical name: Periorbital hyperpigmentation
Darkness or shadow under the eye.
The cause
Three quite different causes with different treatments: true dermal pigment, visible vessels beneath thin skin, or a shadow cast by a hollow. Examination distinguishes them in a minute, and treating the wrong one wastes money.
What we can actually change
Pigment improves 40–70% with topicals and light peels. Shadow from a hollow improves markedly with filler — genuinely our clearest result. Visible vessels are the hardest and improve very little; sometimes we say concealer is the more sensible answer. Sleep and water do not treat an anatomical hollow.
Treatments that address it
Dermal filler
Hyaluronic acid that fills a defect or supports an area that has lost volume.
1–2 SESSIONS · 4 weeks · Downtime 3 days · Moderate
6,000 – 12,000 EGP
Medical pigmentation treatment
Reduces melanin production and prevents the patches returning.
4–8 SESSIONS · 6 weeks · No downtime · Painless
400 – 700 EGP
Chemical peel
Removes defined layers of skin so it regenerates with smoother texture and less pigment.
4–8 SESSIONS · 3 weeks · Downtime 3 days · Mild
700 – 1,800 EGP
This will not work if
- If the cause is visible vessels under thin skin — improvement will be very limited, and we say so before you book.
- If your under-eye skin is very thin — filler can look bluish (the Tyndall effect). We check first.
- If you have chronic allergic rhinitis — the darkness returns while the allergy persists.
- If you need the result within a fortnight of an event — tear-trough filler bruises. Do not book.
Aftercare
- Sunscreen under the eye too
- Cold compresses for the first 24 hours after injection
- Do not massage the area
Questions we are asked
- Will better sleep fix dark circles?
- If the cause is temporary fatigue, yes. If it is pigment or an anatomical hollow, no — sleep does not change bone.

The cards below are templates showing the format and the record that will sit beneath every image. No patient images are published yet, and we have not filled the space with stock photography or manufacturers' catalogue images.
Template record — not a real case
Shadow from an anatomical hollow — the only type that responds clearly to filler. Photographed at 3 weeks once swelling had fully resolved.
